Our Story

Hoosier Hook and CaSt is a small, “mom and pop” type of shop where we hand-make custom lures including jigs and other cast items along with several soft plastics. While enjoying fishing since we were kids, we became involved heavily in kayak fishing and participating in kayak bass fishing tournaments. Always being the type of person who sees a product and thinks “I can make that, and do it better”, I fished tournaments with lures that were mediocre in quality, and most of all-expensive. It hit me as I was cutting my line that was tied to my only shad colored swim jig I had with me that day because it was hung on some downed limbs…..I need to look into how to make these things and then I’d always have as many as I needed for the next tournament. So I did, and found a hobby that we all enjoy. I was also lucky that I caught my personal best Largemouth on the first bladed jig I made, which made us realize that hobby quickly needed to become something we wanted to share with others, and here we are!

You may have noticed we spell out the word “CaSt” in an odd way. This is a nod to our oldest son, Cale Stuart (Ca St, get it?) who we lost in a motorcycle crash. Cale loved fishing from the time he was very little and never turned down the chance to go catch crappie and bass with Mom, Dad, Conner, and even Grandpa while growing up. He was also, like his younger brother Conner, a Business Management degree holder and told us over and over that “we needed to create a business that we enjoyed so we wouldn’t have to work at a job we didn’t like”. This spelling is our way of keeping that memory alive as Cale would have loved to be involved in this little venture.
